Who they are
Born in 1991 in Mi'ilya in the western Galilee to parents who both worked for the government, Abed studied economics and political science at Earlham College in the United States, where student protest shaped her politics. She joined Standing Together after campaigning against the Nation-State Law and against the deportation of asylum seekers. She was elected to Haifa city council in 2024 on the joint Arab-Jewish City Majority list she co-founded, and chairs the board of Haifa Museums.
Positions and record
Municipal budgets: Led a successful campaign against a cut of nearly two million shekels from Haifa's welfare budget.
Arabic in public: Fought attempts to erase Arabic from Haifa's signage and public spaces.
Ceasefire: A long-standing advocate of a bilateral ceasefire and a negotiated two-state settlement.
