Who they are
Danino is 40, runs a consulting firm called HaMumchim Danino, and advises defence and municipal companies. He built a food chain to dozens of branches before it went bankrupt, wrote a book about the collapse, and gives the proceeds to a fund in memory of Lieutenant Colonel Sahar Zion Machluf, a friend of his killed on 7 October. He served more than 600 reserve days during the war as an officer with the Nahal Brigade. What he writes about is the cost of living. He argues that Israeli prices come from market structure, surplus regulation, customs and energy costs rather than from the consumer tax cuts governments announce near an election, and he would zero-rate VAT on staples. The party announced him as a lieutenant colonel in the reserves. In an interview a few months earlier he said he left regular service in 2012 as a captain. A reserve promotion since would explain both, but no source outside the party gives the higher rank.
