Who they are
Waked is from Arraba. He studied Arabic and Hebrew at the Hebrew University and took a master’s in translation at Bar-Ilan. He taught Arabic and was headteacher of Amal Ilut Comprehensive School. He headed Arraba’s local council from 2008 to 2013 and served as mayor from 2018 to 2024.
Positions and record
Housing and infrastructure: In his 2018 municipal programme, prioritised roads, approval of detailed building plans and building plots for young couples.
Municipal administration: In his 2018 municipal programme, promised reform of municipal staffing and internal administration, with equal rights and duties for all residents.
Nation-State Law: In a March 2019 speech, opposed the Nation-State Law and supported continued annual Land Day commemorations.
Education and culture: In August 2023, called for greater effort in education and culture, and preserving Arabic to protect national identity.
