Who they are
Yoav Segalovitz spent his career in the Israel Police, reaching the rank of nitzav and founding Lahav 433, the national unit against corruption and organised crime. He was born in Tel Aviv in 1959 to an accountant and served as an intelligence officer in the Paratroopers Brigade. He read law at Tel Aviv University and joined the police as a student, working as a prosecutor before commanding the Kfar Saba station and then the Eilat district.
He left Eilat after eighteen months to build the national unit against economic crime, heading the inquiries into Tzachi Hanegbi, the finance minister Avraham Hirchson and President Moshe Katsav. Promoted nitzav, he took over the Investigations and Intelligence Division, where he ran the Holyland case and approved the recommendations to charge Ehud Olmert and Avigdor Liberman.
He joined Yesh Atid in 2016, wrote its anti-corruption programme and later promoted Knesset bills on economic violence within the family. He wrote the emergency plan the cabinet adopted in October 2021 and led Operation Safe Route against the crime organisations in Arab society, after which the number of people murdered there fell for the first time since 2014. On joining Mansour Abbas’s United Arab List he called the claim that partnership with Arab parties was impossible after 7 October baseless.
Positions and record
Jewish-Arab partnership: The reason he is on this list. He told the Nazareth announcement that the common notion that no political partnership with Arab parties is possible after 7 October is baseless and false, and that he does not intend to change Ra'am and it will not change him.
The terms of the deal: He is on the slate and would sit in the faction, but he is not a party member and Ra'am's constitution was not amended for him. He keeps a free vote on religion and state, national security and LGBTQ rights.
A Jewish and democratic state: He made two things conditions of joining: that Ra'am recognise Israel as a Jewish and democratic state, and that it back national-civilian service for Arab citizens.
Crime and violence: His declared brief. Reports in July and August had him seeking the National Security Ministry itself; by the announcement Ra'am was asking instead for a focused role over the fight against crime and violence.
