Who they are
Waleed Taha is a Ra’am member of the Knesset and a member of the Islamic Movement who ran a network of schools before he entered national politics.
He was born in Kafr Qasim in 1968 and took degrees in political science from the Open University and in history from Tel Aviv University, where he went on to complete a master’s in political science with a security specialisation. He worked as a teacher and then directed al-Huda, a network of kindergartens and schools in Ramla.
In his home town he headed the Kafr Qasim branch of the Islamic Movement, sat on its local Shura council, served on the municipal council, ran the council’s education department and sat on the city’s popular committee. He was chosen as the southern branch’s representative in the Ra’am faction in 2019 and was elected on the Joint List slate, holding the seat when the list ran again the following spring. When Ra’am split from the Joint List and stood alone, he returned to the Knesset for the party and became chairman of the Interior and Environment Committee after the death of Said Alharumi.
