Who they are
Raz was born in Jerusalem on 19 December 1965. He commanded a team in Maglan and earned a degree in economics and accounting at the Hebrew University. He worked as Peace Now’s secretary general before entering the Knesset for Meretz in 2000. He returned in 2017 and 2021, chaired the committee overseeing Israel’s sovereign wealth fund and served until 2022.
Positions and record
Peace: Pursue two states within a regional peace process, with equal, mutually agreed land swaps based on the Green Line.
Environment: Guarantee environmental-group representation on planning, water and coastal bodies and strengthen the 2002 Representation Law.
Education: Establish a secular state-school stream and require transparency and parliamentary scrutiny of externally supplied school programmes.
Religion and state: Allow civil marriage and legislate for public transport on Shabbat.
Military service: Create an army ombudsman for religious-coercion complaints and open every military role to women.
