Running for the Knesset Finance Committee chair
The claim is reported, not stated: when he left the chair in July 2025, committee colleagues told Ynet that running it is his life's aspiration, and in 2022 he gave up a ministry to keep it. He has not said what he wants after the election.
Who they are
Born in Tel Aviv in 1952 to Gur Hasidic parents from Poland, he studied at the Slabodka and Grodna yeshivot and moved to Ofakim in 1973, where he helped found the Haredi community and headed a kollel. He wrote for the newspaper Yated Ne'eman before entering the Knesset in 1988. He now leads Degel HaTorah and has chaired the Finance Committee across four stints since 2009.
