Who they are
Chaim Yehuda Leib Gottlieb is a chip verification engineer in Beitar Illit, where he founded a kollel for haredim who work. He was born and raised in Jerusalem near the Yechaveh Da’at study hall, where he learned from the teachings of Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, and studied at Nezer HaTorah, at Slabodka Yeshiva in Bnei Brak and at Torah Ore in Jerusalem. After moving to Beitar Illit he studied monetary law in the Torah Ore kollel, training at the Nesivos Chaim rabbinical court.
At about twenty-three he enrolled at what was then the Haredi College, taking maths and English to the five-unit matriculation level, then studied computer science in the evenings at Hadassah Academic College. In his third year he joined a pre-silicon chip verification programme, working on projects for Marvell, Rafael and Elbit, and went on to Intel’s processor group and L&T before setting up his own firm, Orthodox Verification. Through aceVerification he worked for Gilat and advised Samsung, where he led the rewrite of its camera image-processing test environments. He now works on AI that builds verification environments.
He founded the kollel while at Intel, and haredi developers from Beitar Illit later joined his company. He ran for mayor as an independent in 2018 and took 873 votes. In a new neighbourhood of the town he has organised working kollel men into communities that combine Torah study and work.
