Maoz has named this ministry as what he wants. He held a narrower version of the brief as a deputy minister and resigned from it twice. No pollster currently lists his party at all, so there is no seat figure behind the claim.
Who they are
Born in Haifa in 1956 to Holocaust survivors, Maoz co-founded the Gush Etzion settlement of Migdal Oz in 1977 and served as its secretary, studied in yeshiva through the 1980s, and then ran two government ministries as director-general, the Interior Ministry from 1999 and later Construction and Housing. He founded Noam in 2019 and has been its only MK since 2021. He served two spells as a deputy minister in the prime minister's office with authority over Jewish-identity bodies and the Education Ministry's external programmes, resigning the second time in March 2025 over promises he said were not kept.
Positions and record
Jewish identity: Israel's public character should be Orthodox: whoever wants to be a Jew should convert according to halacha.
The courts: Says judicial reform is needed like air to breathe, and wants the override clause passed before the next government is sworn in.
Sovereignty: His Judea and Samaria sovereignty bill passed a preliminary reading, and he attacks Netanyahu for freezing it.
