Running for membership of the Education, Constitution, or Interior and Environmental Protection Committees

In questionnaires on 3 July 2026, Salalha names these committee memberships as his preferences, without claiming their chairs. A Davar interview on 12 February 2019 recorded an earlier aspiration to be education minister or deputy education minister; his current questionnaires do not repeat that ministerial target.

Who they are

Salalha was born in Beit Jann in 1952 and attended Rama secondary school. He served in the IDF from November 1970 to April 1974, then studied the Middle East and international relations at the Hebrew University. He taught at Beit Jann Comprehensive School and was its principal from 1999 to 2019. He entered the Knesset for Meretz in 2021.

Positions and record

Education: Require transparency, school approval and relevant parental consent for outside organisations working in schools, and equal, transparent funding across education streams.

Religion and state: Allow civil marriage and divorce as alternatives to religious procedures for every faith.

Transport: Run Shabbat and holiday public transport throughout the country except in communities that choose to remain closed, with arrangements respecting local residents.

Military service: Enforce protection from religious and political coercion while rejecting separate units based on worldview.

Environment: Revive the environmental-education programme developed with the Council for a Beautiful Israel and expand it to all communities.
