Who they are

Karhi was born in 1982, qualified as an accountant and holds a doctorate in industrial engineering and management. He lectured at Bar-Ilan University before entering the Knesset in 2019. He has been communications minister since December 2022, and the broadcasting law that replaces the sector's regulators passed in July 2026.

Positions and record

Public broadcasting: Says there is no place for broadcasting funded out of the public purse.

Media regulation: Passed a law abolishing the Second Authority and the Cable and Satellite Council.

Foreign press: Backed closing Al Jazeera's Israeli operations, calling it a propaganda platform.

Gaza: Argued at a 2024 conference for renewed Jewish settlement in Gaza.
