Who they are

Smadja was born on 20 June 1970 and grew up in Ofakim, where his father Maurice taught him judo. He won bronze at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics and silver at the 1995 world championships. He coached Israel’s men’s team from 2010 to 2025 and joined Erdan and Edelstein’s party in August 2026.

Positions and record

Service: In August 2026, said everyone should serve the state and presented shared service as a basis for national unity.

Government: Supports a broad government. In August 2026, refused to supply the deciding vote for a narrow government led by either Netanyahu or Eisenkot.

Gaza and borders: In April 2025, called for Hamas’s defeat and removal from Gaza, alongside secure northern and southern borders for residents.

Hostages and rehabilitation: In April 2025, called for the hostages’ return and rehabilitation of the wounded alongside the campaign against Hamas.
