Who they are

Makvala Khundiashvili, also known as Rusiko, is a nurse by profession who became a source of support for fellow immigrants after arriving in Israel in 1983. She was born around 1950 and is the mother of Michael Topchiashvili, who leads the list.

By her son's account, she saw immigrants from privileged backgrounds fall into depression as they struggled to adapt, and took a factory job herself to show that no work is shameful. Many followed her example, taking simple jobs while they learned Hebrew, and later returned to their own professions.
