Who they are
Schuster was born in Kibbutz Mefalsim on 2 March 1957. He served in the Nahal paratroopers, lost the sight in one eye in 1981 and left the reserves as a lieutenant colonel. He studied mathematics and computer science at Ben-Gurion University, taught at the Sha'ar HaNegev school and led the regional council from 2002 to 2018. He entered the Knesset in 2019 and was agriculture minister from 2020 to 2021.
Positions and record
Agriculture: Supports lower water charges for farmers and sponsored a bill to reduce agricultural water tariffs.
Food production: Opposes the proposed liberalisation of the dairy market. Supports domestic dairies and price controls on essential dairy products.
Hostages and government: In August 2025, backed temporary participation in government to secure hostage release, assist service personnel and arrange early elections. Put hostage return before defeating Hamas.
