Who they are
Saadi was born in 1963 and read law at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where he chaired the Arab students’ association. He practised as a lawyer, representing prisoners and East Jerusalem legislators in residency cases. He became Ta’al’s secretary-general in 1996 and served in the Knesset from 2015 to 2017 and from 2019 to 2022.
Positions and record
Justice: Supports independent scrutiny of prosecutors and the attorney general. Says state lawyers must present the full evidence to courts rather than seek victory at any cost.
Land and planning: Calls for Arab residents to have a workable route to lawful building permits before facing demolition and heavy fines.
Statehood: Supports a two-state settlement and opposes Israeli annexation of Ma’ale Adumim, which he says would undermine that settlement.
Workplace safety: Calls for stronger inspection and deterrence against workplace-safety breaches, including financial penalties, stop-work orders and prosecutions.
