Who they are
Deri was born in Paris and came to Israel alone in 1990 through Youth Aliyah. She worked about 15 years in journalism, starting at Arutz Sheva's French service, and later wrote a column for Israel Hayom. She founded a national educational absorption project for immigrants from France and sat on the Mateh Binyamin Regional Council for Eli. Her son, Sergeant First Class Sadaia Yaakov Deri, was killed in Gaza on 20 June 2024.
Positions and record
Haredi enlistment: Leads the bereaved families campaigning for a universal draft. Her framework is broad haredi conscription alongside limited, defined quotas for full-time Torah scholars, and she has said every 18-year-old should serve in some form.
The war: Days after her son fell in June 2024 she said he "did not fall on the altar of a diplomatic arrangement but for a complete victory over the enemy".
