The designation is Liberman's: he announced in May 2026 that Amar will be the next minister in charge of the police, regardless of who forms the government. Amar himself has not been quoted asking for the job.
Who they are
Amar was born in Shefa-Amr on 5 November 1964. He served in the army from 1982 to 1986 and studied law at Shaarei Mishpat College. He joined Shefa-Amr's council in 1998 and entered the Knesset in 2009. He served as a minister without portfolio from 2021 to 2022, working in the Finance Ministry.
